Firefighters are the real life heroes – they risk themselves to save others every day. When an apartment fire in Georgia left a father worried for the safety of his young son, a quick thinking firefighter motivated him to throw his baby from the second floor of the burning building. DeKalb County Firefighter Robert Sutton assured the desperate father he would catch his son. And that is exactly what he did, all thanks to his incredible firefighting skills. “He was a little guy, so when I heard his father yelling ‘Help’, and saw him hanging out the window with the baby in his arms, I just went into action. I just did what any of the other firefighters out here would have done,” said Sutton. The brave man also mentioned he hadn’t faced such a dramatic situation before. “It was my first time in a situation like that,” he added. The video, posted above, showed Sutton covered with smoke standing beneath a window waiting for the father to throw his baby down. Once the child landed safely in his arms, he paused for a while and embraced the infant before taking him away from the deadly situation. “All of a sudden you heard a man screaming. When I heard there was a baby, my heart started fluttering. But the firefighters got up to the window fast and the one guy just caught it like a football pass. It was something to see,” said Carter, a witness who recorded the incredible save. Sutton’s department was naturally proud of him. “There’s not really one thing that prepares you for what Firefighter Sutton and his colleagues encountered yesterday. It’s good training. It’s years of experience and having a good sense of situational awareness. I’m just really proud.” said the DeKalb County Fire Rescue Captain Tom Burrell. Meanwhile, Sutton humbly dedicated his timely life saving catch to his training.
