Shortly after 6:30pm on Dec 25, 09, multiple calls came into the fire alarm office reporting a structure fire at Gaulin Ave and Elm St. Heavy smoke with visible fire inside this vacant 4 sty dwelling eventually took full possession of the upper floors, burning through the roof while a vacant 4 decker was sitting only feet away.
Facing heavy fire conditions, firefighters were forced out of the building and went to an exterior attack, concentrating on the severely threatened exposure. Woonsocket’s bravest did an outstanding job doing just that. It took over 2 hours to bring the Christmas night fire under control without injuries or damage to any exposed building.
